When I sent for the third one, I just plugged it into the wall outlet and into the computer. Also, it is much easier to setup. Awesome. It is very dependable. Thanks. The one thing that was not made clear (to me, anyways) was that you do not need more than one plugged into your router for several computers to work off.
Highly recommend it. This device work very well. It is obviously not as fast as a direct connection, but it is certainly faster and much more reliable than wireless. The computer found the internet (I am using Windows XP on that particular computer) with no problems.
But be warned -- the SEE IT NOW video link from THIS product shows truly wireless adapters. You plug this device into an outlet and then run an ethernet cable from the device to your PC/laptop. This works ok, but not as well as hoped for. This is NOT one of those so I'm not sure why Netgear would show those in a video for a non wireless adapter.
It was truly a Plug and Play experience for me. It has been working for over a month now without a glitch.
The LED's do not tell you what's wrong. I don't know if this is a newer model that looks the same or the same model I've been getting, so I'm just going to caution buyers to be aware. Meanwhile you're running around re-booting your modem and fiddling with the computer and calling your ISP for nothing.
Both sets I have had have failed in this way. So, I got a second new pair and that pair just died after about 14 months. So, if you buy one of these, definitely register it for the 3-year warranty and keep all of your paperwork. It will drop out maybe once per day. I bought a set of these about two years ago and it worked really well at first but died after about 10 months. When they die they do it gradually over about a month. The drop-outs become gradually more and more frequent, so it's not clear what's going on at first. They just blink on and off.
They seem to last about a year. These work well but seem to burn out fast. At first performance lags, then you get inexplicable drop-outs that are intermittent. Finally, you get to the point where it drops out every hour then every few minutes.
I'm giving four stars, instead of five, as since it's little on the pricey side. Within a minute I had my printer networked. Then I found this. Definitely recommend. I've been looking for a way to put my network printer onto my home network and found this tool. My printer didn't come w/ wireless so I thought my only options were either really really long cable or an ethernet to wireless bridge (most of which have terrible or inconsistent reviews). Some additional time to setup encryption (so my annoying neighbors cannot snoop into my network) and I was good to go.
